Diamond Guide
The most important things to consider when you purchase a diamond are the 4 Cs - cut, clarity, colour, and carat weight. A universally used grading system for diamonds, which determines its value and rarity.
Diamond Cut
The brilliance of a diamond depends heavily on its cut, as it is the diamond's reflective qualities. Diamonds are cut by skilled craftsmen to bring out the very best in a diamond. Diamond Clarity Most diamonds contain inclusions (flaws) which occur naturally and give each diamond its own unique characteristics. Most inclusions are invisible to the naked eye. The fewer inclusions in the diamond, the greater the clarity and the more valuable it is.
Guide to diamond clarity classification:
F = Flawless
IF = Internally Flawless
VVS1 and VVS2 = Very Very Slightly Included, very difficult to see with 10 x magnification
VS1and VS2 = Very Slightly Included seen only with 10 x magnification
SI1 SI2and SI3 = Slightly Included easily seen with 10 x magnification
I1 , I2 , I3 = Included and visible to the naked eye
Diamond Colour
Colourless diamonds are the most expensive and sought after, as they tend to sparkle more. The more colour a diamond contains, the less sparkle, and therefore less desirable and valuable. Whiteness is graded with a colour scale that begins at D for colourless and ends with Z for a brownish-yellow.
Colourless = DEF
Near Colourless = GHIJ,
Faint Yellow = KLM
Very Light Yellow = NOPQR
Light Yellow = STUVWX and on…
Diamond Carat This is a measure of a diamond’s weight, not its size. The larger the carat weight the rarer and valuable it becomes.
Weddings
Your choice of wedding or engagement ring is a crucial decision, intended to be worn for the rest of your life and symbolising your journey of love.
Whether you choose a classic diamond solitaire, a sparkling three-stone ring or a diamond set wedding band, you'll be mesmerised by JQS's collection.
Engagement Rings
This is an emotional event, and a purchase that will last a lifetime. Whether you're buying a ring together or choosing it for your bride to be, it is an exciting time.How much should I spend? The two month salary convention is a common starting point, but we believe that regardless of the amount you budget, your most important considerations should be quality and value.
What metal should I choose?
Platinum is the strongest, most pure metal, rarer than gold. It will last a lifetime. 18 carat gold is the most common ring setting, composed of 75% gold and 25% metal alloys to give it strength.
A diamond solitaire ring is the traditional engagement ring – a single diamond set on a band of gold or platinum. Brilliant round is the classic diamond shape solitaire. However, fancy shaped diamonds such as emerald cut, princess cut, oval, heart, pear and marquise are increasingly popular and create an exquisite contemporary engagement ring.
A diamond cluster ring brings together a number of stones for a dazzling effect. A cluster ring may have one diamond as its centrepiece surrounded by smaller stones. Or it may feature four diamonds of equal size, set together to create the look of one stunning stone.
A diamond three stone ring is a beautiful, meaningful option. With a diamond representing your past, your present and your future, a three stone ring is also known as a trilogy ring.
